What Is Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)?

SLE is a systemic autoimmune disorder in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own tissues, producing autoantibodies that cause widespread inflammation.
It may involve virtually any organ, including:

  • Joints

  • Kidneys

  • Heart

  • Lungs

  • Blood cells
